THE ROTARY CLUB
OF WANGARATTA
WANG LIT FEST
AND BOOK FAIR

14 AND 15 SEPTEMBER 2019
9.00AM TO 5.00PM

The Wang Lit Fest and Book Fair grew from a Rotary Club of Wangaratta Book Fair initiative started early in 2017. Held over the Queen’s Birthday weekend in 2017 and 2018 the festival now moves to the weekend of Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September 2019. More than 40,000 books have been donated from the local community and the Fair continues to raise significant funds for community projects.

In 2018 Rotary significantly expanded the scope of the original Book Fair project to incorporate a Literary Festival and the Wang Lit Fest and Book Fair will continue to develop in 2019 and will again feature:

  • Wangaratta Young Writers Award for all young people between the ages of 10-19. The award encourages the development of capacity and imagination through writing. Recognising the categories of Prose, Poetry or Song Lyrics and writing for a Digital Format the awards will be presented at a post Wang Lit Fest celebration.
  • Visiting Writers presentations and workshops, has been organised and jointly sponsored by the Arts Council and the Wangaratta Library.
  • Once upon a story children’s presentations and workshops
  • A display of Life Stories
  • A display of large print books from Vision Australia
  • Retro Café
  • Book sculpture artist’s installation project
  • Planned multicultural workshops throughout the year, in conjunction with NEMA for young writers and students reading to grandparents with English as a second language.
